This post will elaborate on the intense leg day regimen Lee Priest tackled with the renowned bodybuilder, Tom Platz.

Priest’s career on stage extended over three decades. Lee Priest: “My Nervous System Was So Fu**ing Drained”

Lee Priest appeared with Milos Sarcev on a recent episode of the Jujitoine Podcast, where he delved into the training session.

“When I trained with Tom, Tom Platz, we typically stuck to four or five plates and just repped them out. You know, Tom was fanatic about static holds. Whether it was leg press, hack squats, go halfway, hold, then he would start pulling on the fu**ing thing. Saying, ‘go back up, Lee. Come back down.’”

Priest went on to describe the aftermath of the training session.

“I’d return home that night and wake up in the middle of the night thinking I was having a heart attack because my nervous system was so f**ing exhausted from leg day with Tom. I’d wake up in a cold sweat at 1 AM, thinking, ‘This is it, I’m having a heart attack.’”

The sheer size of Tom Platz’s legs was extraordinary, and they remain enormous to this day. Priest shared what it was like when Platz would flex his legs.

“At Gold’s Gym, he had his green belt on while squatting. His legs had a certain shape, but as soon as he flexed them, they doubled in size. It was like, what the f**k?”

Tom Platz continues to be a prominent figure in bodybuilding, renowned for his phenomenal legs, some of the best in the world. His techniques are still referenced and utilized by athletes aiming to build their quads and hamstrings. Lee Priest recalls these training sessions as some of the most demanding he’s ever experienced.
