In our dialogue with Melle Mel, we briefly touched upon the progression of hip hop music. Specifically, the trends that ebb and flow with each era of hip hop stars. Melle Mel has consistently focused on developing a strong physique. However, in the early days of rap, this was rarer.

Fast forward to the present, and numerous rappers now exhibit muscular or shredded builds. This trend seemed to gain traction in the 90s. Nowadays, several viral clips showcase renowned rappers lifting significant weights.

That’s why we asked Melle Mel to name his choices for the most built rappers ever. Excluding himself, who does he find most impressive in terms of muscle? After some contemplation, he listed: Method Man, Nelly, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, and Busta Rhymes.

He points out that some of these rappers didn’t consistently maintain their physique over time, or at least he’s uncertain about their consistency. Nonetheless, at various points, each of these five hip hop artists dedicated effort to crafting an admirable build, with some nearing bodybuilding standards.

Of course, somewhat playfully, Melle Mel stated he would top the list if he included himself. Although fitness and muscle trends in hip hop, Melle Mel has always had a true passion for bodybuilding. He follows the sport closely and keeps his physique in shape consistently. This passion parallels his devotion to hip hop.

Earlier in the video, Melle Mel also discusses how he ventured into bodybuilding. His serious fitness journey began in 1984, focusing initially on calisthenics. He did 750 push-ups each day. Over the years, this fitness enthusiasm evolved into heavier weight training and a profound love for bodybuilding.
